A movie based on Ubisoft’s Assassin’s Creed franchise has been in development for years. The movie, which was supposed to come out Memorial Day weekend, is now set to hit theaters at the end of 2016, and the debut film for Ubisoft Motion Pictures will star Michael Fassbender, who is also a producer on the movie.While it’s been a long wait, it now appears that the movie may be making some steady progress. Deadline is reporting that Oscar-winning actress Marion Cotillard has signed on for the film. Pop culture fans may recognize her as the actress who played Talia al Ghul in 2012′s The Dark Knight Rises. Cotillard won the Academy Award for Best Actress in 2007 for her performance in La Vie En Rose, and she is nominated for that same category again this year for her part in Two Days, One Night.What’s interesting is that Creed fans will be able to get a preview of how Fassbender and Cotillard perform on screen together later this year. Both stars have been cast in a movie adapation of Shakespeare’s Macbeth. That movie will be directed by Justin Kurzel, who is also the director for Assassin’s Creed.The specific roles that Fassbender and Cotillard will play in Assassin’s Creed are still under wraps, but it’s said that both have a deal that could span multiple films if this initial project is a success.
