Hello everyone,
The newest build of the app has just been set live on Steam and it now has (experimental) support for the Xbox 360 chatpad on Wired Controllers. It also comes with an improved installer and bug fixes for chatpad in general.
For all of you without chatpads, the main feature in this update is smoother mouse and scroll movement.
Regarding Steam Controller support, I'm still investigating, but it doesn't seem to be a very easy nut to crack. I'll keep trying.
Cheers,
Jacob
Full changelist follows:
There is now a shortcut to restore Guide button functionality on Windows 10. (Disables the Gamebar shortcut)
EXPERIMENTAL Chatpad support on Wired Xbox 360 controllers
Added ZQSD binding option for sticks.
Now installs into 64 bit Program files on 64bit machines.
Mouse movement should be smoother now.
Volume and Media bindings may work more consistently now.
Fixed a chatpad bug that could cause controller input to get stuck
Improved the chatpad installer
Chatpad now initializes faster.
About This Software
Use your controller even when you're not in-game or in Big Picture.
Never leave the couch when using a controller with PC. Control mouse, keyboard and media player. No more getting up to muck about with mouse and keyboard to launch the game you wanted to play.
Mouse and Keyboard Control on the Desktop
When Big-Picture is not running, you can control the mouse with the left thumbstick and scroll with the right thumbstick.
Click the left thumbstick and you get keyboard input directly on the desktop with a nice arcade-style keyboard spiral.
Turns off your wireless controller when you turn off your PC
Never again will you have to pop out the battery to turn off the controller when you turn off the PC. (Only Xbox 360 Controllers)
Very Low CPU usage
Controller Companion makes sure to stay in the background and use as few resources as possible. It will also disable itself as soon as Big Picture is running.
Switch between PC and TV displays
Switch between your connected monitors or TV screens with the controller.
Use Controller as a Media Remote
Control your music player with the controller using Y for Play/Pause and the shoulder buttons for Previous and Next track.
Customization
You can remap the buttons.
Does it work with Xbox One and Wired Xbox 360 Controllers?
Yes, it works with any controller that is supports XInput.
Why did it stop working when playing fullscreen video?
Controller Companion auto-disables for fullscreen programs, you can override it by holding back and start. See the video above about Auto-Disable.
Will running this app show me as &Playing Controller Companion&?
No! Controller Companion will launch through Steam and then run in the background.
Do I need to have Steam running to use Controller Companion
No, you can even set Controller Companion to automatically start when you start your PC.

Release your inner couch potato! Controller Companion is an application that allows you to navigate the desktop and other programs using a controller, I’ve only used it with an Xbox 360 controller but I believe it works with other controllers as well. Setting it up is incredibly easy and straightforward thanks to the settings menu accessed via the taskbar icon for Controller Companion, allowing you to do things such as change the mouse acceleration and creating profiles for different programs. The settings for the application in general are very useful and range from starting Controller Companion upon startup to the deadzone of your controller. One of the particularly useful settings is the ability to turn off the ‘In-App’ status for Steam when using Controller Companion. It might not sound ground-breaking but since Controller Companion is the kind of application you always have running in the background, I feel it would get irritating to constantly appear as though you’re using it.Controller Companion’s strongest, and main, feature is the ability to create profiles for different programs as I mentioned earlier. You start off with the basic Desktop profile which is used by default for any programs unless you create separate profiles for them. As with all profiles you can change the controller bindings for this profile. The Desktop profile also allows you to change your virtual keyboard bindings which are then used by any profile's with the virtual keyboard is enabled. The virtual keyboard has a spiral design and features punctuation and numbers as well as the alphabet, it is obviously not as efficient to use as a regular keyboard but it’s far easier to use than other virtual keyboards such as the one found on the Xbox. Anyway, back to profiles. Creating profiles for other programs is simple. Just below the Desktop profile settings there’s a section called ‘Process Bindings’. The easiest way to get started is to run the program you want a profile for and then select it from the recently used section of the ‘add a new process profile’ menu. Simple. Once you’ve done that you’ve got the same options as the Desktop profile as well as Mouse settings for the specific profile and general profile settings, e.g. the name of the profile. The next time you start the program you’ve just created a profile for, Controller Companion will automatically switch to the bindings for said program.Another great thing about Controller Companion is that it supports the Steam Workshop. What does this mean for using the application? Well once you’ve created a profile for a program you can upload it to the workshop (or update an existing workshop item) by exporting the profile. Once it’s up other people can download the profile so they don’t have to create their own for said program. One last thing to mention is that whenever you launch an application with controller support, such as Steam Big Picture or a game with controller support, the application automatically disables itself to avoid any input duplication. It also does this for fullscreen programs such as other games though there do seem to be some exceptions to this.Verdict Essential Purchase I’ve been using this application with Netflix as well as a couple of games without controller support and it’s been great. The ability to just sit back and relax while binge watching Netflix without having to stand up to start the next episode or change the volume is glorious. This simple application is a great thing to own if you often sit at a distance from your PC or you just don’t feel like using the mouse and keyboard from time to time. If you wish to up your laziness game, this application is for you!No drama, El K.

After many months of use, here is my experience and opinion of this software. Controller Companion is very helpful, convenient, and intuitive. A steal even at full price! It works flawlessly. I already own multiple Xbox 360 controllers and whether you're using a wired, USB one, or a wireless (with adapter dongle), I've never had problems. You connect your controller and it's immediately good to go! You can customize everything (that I can think of). One time I thought my A on the controller was getting sticky, no problem! Just re-binded left mouse button to something else. If you're playing a game, or anything full screen, it will disable the software and the game will detect it as a controller as intended, and disable the mouse/ keyboard bindings. But if you just wanted to play the game with this as a mouse, no problem! Press back and start and Controller Companion is instantly enabled again. There's minimal effort required for re-binding things, and switching back from Controller Companion to just the original controller and vice versa - It's super well designed and intuitive. You can create profiles too, for example some people posted profiles for visual novels, etc. or for watching movies, that have the most relevant keys configured for your controller. You can then easily switch back to a standard binding once done. It runs in the background that doesn't trigger the Steam counter once you launch it the first time, so it doesn't unnecessarily show you've played 1k hours on this (I'm indifferent about this, but definitely a plus for people that don't like unnecessary time counters.)I heavily use this for browsing from my bed, or when I'm leaning back in my office chair half asleep. Controller Companion also helps me with studying, really! I just have lecture slides up, sit back, and scroll. Studying while not having to sit properly at my keyboard is the best! One small thing about this is that the typing is slow, as you would expect - Steam big picture mode, and any console usually has slower typing, but this really didn't take away from my experience, because I primarily use Controller Companion as what it's designed for - mouse and some functions (volume, next song etc.) and not as a keyboard.Overall, I highly recommend this software, it works amazingly and is super easy to use, with a multitude of situations you could benefit from using it with a controller.

This little piece of software is well worth the 3 usd pricetag. Intuitive desktop controls for lazy navigation. Media controls, that turn your controller into a remote for your videoplayer, and music player, ands easy netflix and hulu navigation, all for the low low price of 3 dollars. But, the real justification for the price is the
for games that are a ????? to setup controls for your x360 or xbone controller. Give it a go, you can't go wrong for 3 bucks.
