Question How do I backup a FactoryTalk View SE Application before moving it to a new PC?
How do I move or copy FactoryTalk View SE Application to a new PC?
How do I recover FactoryTalk View SE .apa backup file running in a new PC?
How to back up and restore a FactoryTalk Directory (Local and Network)?
Environment FactoryTalk View Site Edition Networks and Local Application
Answer Network Application Before moving FactoryTalk View to a new PC, you must backup the structure or layout of the application. The steps below backup the application name, area names, data server and shortcut names, as well as the Tag Alarm and Event Server (if in use). The FactoryTalk directory and connections are not backed up unless you check the box toBackup the System Archive.
Step I - Backup FactoryTalk Information 1. Start the FactoryTalk Administration Console. Go to Windows Taskbar--&Start--& Programs--& Rockwell Software--& FactoryTalk Administration Console. Select Network, if prompted. 2. In the Explorer tree on the left, right-click on your application and select Backup.
Note: If you checkBackup System Archive, you also backup the FactoryTalk Directory, which is everything below the System folder in the Explorer tree.
3. Note the name and location where the backup file (.bak) will be stored and select OK. 4. If you are using a Tag Alarm and Event Server in your application, export the tags to an Excel file by right-clicking on the Tag Alarm and Event Server and selecting Import and Export. Follow the prompts.
Step II - Backup the HMI Application Before you can backup the HMI application, you must download the RSView SE - Backup and Restore Utility for HMI Server. For instructions on downloading the RSView SE - Backup and Restore Utility for HMI Server, refer to AID 30310. Install and register this application as a service and your backup application.
Note: Version 5.1 of FactoryTalk View Site Edition and above comes with a newer version of the HMI Backup Utility called HMI Server Backup and Restore This utility is located in Programs--&Rockwell Software--&FactoryTalk View--&Tools. Use this version for the 5.1 release.
Check the size of the tag database file after the backup is performed. If it is 201 KBytes and you have tags in the database there is a chance that the backup is bad. Try running the HMI Backup again when the server is not busy (when less clients are connected). The Tag Database is located in the Tag folder and will have a .DB extension or .MDF (for ver. 6.1 and above) extension.
Step III - Backup OPC Server Backup the configuration for RSLinx Classic or the 3rd party OPC server if you are using one. For RSLinx Classic, use the RSLinx Classic Backup and Restore Utility. For other OPC servers, check your documentation.
Step IV - Moving the Application to a different PC 1. On the new PC, copy all backed-up files, including the HMI application, to a local folder.
2. Start the FactoryTalk Administration Console. Go to Windows Taskbar--&Start--&Programs--&Rockwell Software--&FactoryTalk Administration Console. Select Network, if prompted.
3. At the top of the Explorer tree on the left, right-click on Network and select Restore. 4. Browse to the archive to restore (the .bak file). Select Next. 5. Uncheck the Restore System checkbox, if checked, unless you also want to restore the FactoryTalk directory from the backup. Leave the box checked if you want to restore the application and give it a new name. If you just want to restore the application and keep the same name, leave both boxes unchecked.
Note: If you restore the System, the current FactoryTalk directory is replaced, which also includes usernames and passwords as well as policies and connections. In other words, everything below the System folder in the Explorer tree on the left is over written.
Once the Application is restored, expand your application in the Explorer tree. Right-click on the data server and select Properties. Browse to the PC that will be hosting the data server.
Note: If using RSLinx Enterprise, check your shortcuts and make sure they are linked to the correct processor. If using RSLinx Classic or a 3rd party OPC server, point it to the correct PC and restore the configuration or the OPC server that you are using.
6. If using a Tag Alarm and Event Server, right-click on it and select Properties. Select the computer hosting the server. If you exported the tags as specified in section 1 above, import them by right-clicking on the Tag Alarm and Event Server and selecting Import and Export. Follow the prompts. 7. Close the FactoryTalk Administration console. 8. From the Windows Taskbar, right-click on Start and select Explore All Users. Go to Documents and Settings--&All Users--&Documents--&RSView Enterprise--&SE\HMI Projects. 9. You can use the HMI Backup Utility to restore the application to the HMI Projects folder if the project already exists or if the project does not exist you can manually copy the backed up HMI Project into the HMI Projects folder. If the HMI server will not open in Studio after the backup is restored. You can remove it from the HMI Projects folder, then open the project in Studio. The HMI server will have a red stop circle by it. Note the name of it and delete it. Then create a new HMI server with the same name and import the backed up project. 10. Reboot the PC. 11. Start up FactoryTalk View SE and open the application. Repoint the HMI server to the host PC. Right-click on the HMI Server and select Properties. 12. Browse to the Computer hosting the server. 13. If you have Datalog Models setup, open the models and make sure the path is setup correctly. Local or Standalone Application 1. To backup and restore a local or standalone application, use the Application Manager. This utility is located in Programs--&Rockwell Software--&FactoryTalk View--&Tools 2. The Application Manager creates an .apa file 3. Copy the .apa file into new PC 4. Restore the application using the Application Manager. 5. You have the option to restore the SE Local Application or the Local Application and Local FactoryTalk Directory. If you restore the local FactoryTalk Directory, the current Local FactoryTalk Directory on the PC is overwritten. 6. A reboot is required after the restore. 7. To run this application, make sure FactoryTalk View SE Station license is installed, and configure FactoryTalk View SE client to run it.dxtkcsm, 08:27:41
