首先这里要填一个连接词连接两个句子,所以D排除另外live in sth,后面应该跟宾语which,而不是状语where,如果要用where 的话改成This is the house where(that) I used to live.that同理where

in which =where,where是地点副词,前面不能加介词,只能选B
这就是我以前住过的那所房子,用定语从句修饰房子in which=where,若没有in,where答案就对了。
in which = where
因为房子的出生的地方
B。in which 相当于where,引导定语从句修饰the house。

Some people prefer to live in a small town. Others prefer to live in a big city. Which place would you prefer to live in?
Living in big cities and small towns, both have their own advantages and disadvantages. Although it is bit difficult to say that whether living in big city is of more advantage than living in small towns or vice-versa, from my personal perspective I prefer living in a big city. The city life is fast paced, and facilities are more easily available. Any new products which come in markets, ranging from electronic items to even a simple pen, are instantly available in the city as soon as the products are launched. There are wide variety of shops and thus wide variety of choices to choose from.
Apart from the availability of products, the standard of living is much higher in cities when compared to towns. Too many job opportunities and wide range of products available depending on each ones budget has led to the improvement in standard of living. The city grows each day ,with some or the other new project coming up everyday. In cities we find large number of entertainment multiplexes, shopping malls, educational institutions, hospitals, restaurants, etc growing in number each day.
The standard of education is also very high in cities. The easy availability of technology and modern teaching methods may also be one of the reason for this.In cities, we meet wide variety of people coming from various places. As a result of which we get to meet different people, share opinions, get to know different culture, get to taste different varieties of food and the list goes on. Thus enabling our over all personality development, which helps us to lead a better society life.
I do agree that living in cities has got some disadvantages such as Pollution, traffic jams and increased cost of living. However when compared to advantages, the disadvantages are negligible. Thus I believe living in city is more beneficial than in a small town.
I am having my exam on 22 so pls help.

My suggestions are in CAPITAL letters:

Some people prefer to live in a small town. Others prefer to live in a big city. Which place would you prefer to live in? Use specific reasons and detail to support your answer.
While some people like to live in a metropolitan big city, I prefer to live in a quiet comfortable small town. In my opinion, there are some advantages to live in a little town. Small towns have an easy access to anywhere, so I go easily wherever I want. Also, they have less environmental pollution than big cities. I like to care my health so this is important to me.
The first advantage is that small towns have an easy access to all of their places because they have short distances to get to anyplace. This is important to me since there are some benefits such as save time and convenience. For example, when I have to go to the mall, I do not have to drive too much because is near to my house. I do not spend much time driving, so it is convenient and comfortable to me. In case of an emergency, if I have to take someone to the hospital, I would get soon there. Thus, it is an invaluable advantage.
In addition, little cities have less pollution than big cities. Air pollution is dangerous for health. Some studies have demonstrated that air pollution has increased every year in large cities. This air pollution is caused by industrial factories and vehicle traffic. This factories and cars steamed pollutant smoke to the air. This is important to me because I want to keep me healthy, so I cannot do that in these cities because their pollutants are harmful to my lungs. On the other hand, small cities have less pollution since they do not have big factories and vehicle traffic. This is a great benefit because it means less pollution. I want to keep me healthy so small cities are ideal for me.
In conclusion, short distances and pollution are things that I take into account when I look for a place to live. Small cities offer me these important benefits, so I would prefer to live in small cities rather than big cities without question.

People have own choice to live in small town or big city. some people prefar to live in big city , other like to live in small town. both side has strong cause to prefer either town o big city. In my point of view i prefare to live in small town.
I like to mention that i prefare to live in country side. i have strong point to choose countryside. First, i prefare live i quite place. so country side is best place for living quite. Also i like to enjoy nature. in that case it is better to live in small town to enjoy natural beauti. on the other hand, it is difficult to get quite place in big city.
second, i want to continue my life as a healthy person. in country side there is less pollution that the big city. In addition you can get fresh food and vegetables there. so, to being healthy i like to live in country.
In coclusion, i want to mention to keep good health , enjoy the nature and having good food it is better to live in country side. however, it keep away people from pollution .

Some people like to live in small towns where as some prefer to live in big cities. In my case I prefer to live in a big city because of following reasons.
1.Infrastructure.2.Facilities.3.Oppurtunities4.Quality of life.In the following paragraphs i will explain why each of these reasons make people choose city over town.
First reason is infrastructure. In a big city, there will be excellent transport system.we will able to go where ever we want. The quality of roads, flyovers and buildings will be good.Even if they get damaged government takes proper steps to rebuild them since it is a city.In constrast to this in a small town infrstructure will be very poor. The roads will be in crippled condition. It will take years for government to build normal roads, bridges etc because of lack of sufficient funds.
Other reason is facilities. In a big city we will have all world class facilities like health care system, hospitals, educational institutions, airports, shopping malls etc.All this won’t be there in a town. One has to wait for days to get proper treatment in hospital. And the quality of education will also be poor.Third reason is oppurtunities. In a city we will have lot of poourtunities like getting jobs, immigration to other countries etc.One cannot reap these benifits in a small town.
Final reason is overall quality of life. One cannot compare the quality of life in a city and town.City life would be much better, organized than town life where seldom some thing happens.Though there are negative effects of living in a city like cost of living, lack of free time the positive effects outweigh them.So I think living in a city make life comfortable, easy going than living in a town.

There has always been a sharp distinction between urban and rural living, with each having its particular advantages and disadvantages. From a personal perspective, I am more inclined to live in a small town rather than a big city. To me, it boils down to
a better en and family safety.
To begin with, small towns are usually quiet and relatively calm. The pace of life is relaxed and the low number of cars and people makes for a peaceful setting without too much noise. Of course, not all small towns are idyllic in this fashion, and a slow and quiet lifestyle isn’t every person’s piece of cake. However, I personally enjoy it. As a child I lived in both a small country town and then later a large busy city. I vividly recall how much calmer the small hamlet was, and how relaxed and easy-going it made me and others there feel. Conversely, the city with its traffic and crowds of people seemed constantly busy and noisy.
In addition to peace and calm, small town living can usually be associated with a better environment. Apart from the fact that there is less traffic and associated pollution, small towns are mostly located in the countryside and have easy access to rural settings. By way of example, it is usually relatively easy to walk out into fields, forests, valleys or even to rivers and lakes (in their natural settings) when you live in a small rural town. The same can’t be said of city living - which of course has other appeals like entertainment, nightlife and a broader scope of amenities. If, however, like me you prefer the natural environment close to your doorstep, then small town living will be a more attractive option.
Besides tranquility and environmental appeal, I also have to say that small hamlets are better for families - and family safety in particular. Small towns have closer-knit communities where everyone knows and generally looks out for each other. I personally live in a very small coastal town these days, and I deliberately moved here because of my wife and two young children. I know they can go to and from school without being in danger from traffic or some of the nastier elements of society that tend to congregate more in big city locations. This is not to say that close-knit safe communities can’t be forged in cities, but I think anyone who has lived in both settings knows the safety factor for families is more reliable in smaller community-based townships.
To sum up, then, I think I have shown with some conviction that factors
clean and and family safety all amount to better living in small towns. And while I concede that big cities have their own special advantages that can’t be matched in a lot of small rural settings, these are the factors that matter most to me. Give me small town living and lifestyle any day!

Hi there - I’ve left a deliberate “error” in written expression in the essay above. Can you find it? Which phrase in the essay could/should be replaced with the phrase “cup of tea”?
15:40:26 UTC
I was just going to praise this essay for being spotless and confidently state that only some unfortunate accident would prevent the author from getting the perfect score on the Writing section when I noticed, browsing another topic, that you’re a teacher, not a test taker.
The error you mentioned is, I believe, the idiom “piece of cake” used instead of “cup of tea”. My gut feeling also tells me that there should be a comma after the words “like me”, but it could be wrong, of course.
That’s indeed a model essay.
15:46:53 UTC
Right and right and right again!
Yes, I’m a teacher (though I like to put myself in the position of test takers on a regular basis to better understand their challenges and situations)
Yes, indeed, “cup of tea” should replace “piece of cake” in the second paragraph (or first ‘body’ paragraph)
And yes, like you,
I believe there should indeed be a comma after ‘like me’ in the third (or second ‘body’) paragraph ~ thanks for spotting and correcting that
The essay was written in 25 minutes flat, so perhaps you’ll grant me one punctuation error?
Thanks for commenting!

I spent my early years in life in a small town wherein almost everybody knows everybody. Neighbors were friendly, environment is safe and peaceful and everything is so simple. Until now, my family still live there and I really enjoy staying there. Hence, I have to transfer to a bigger city since I got to college until present years because of my personal necessity which eventually became my choice according to which I enjoy living in. Here are my reasons why I prefer to First is academic reason. Standard and highly accredited universities were established in bigger. In addition that, well experienced and remarkable qualified professors and teachers were in charge. Just like the university I went, it has more highly innovated study materials, laboratories and latest technology that is quiet advance compared to local schools in smaller towns. Second, bigger city can offer better work opportunities to young professionals and job seekers since it has greater number of business establishments. There will be a higher salary range and offers a place to start establishing a competitive career since the place itself is fast paced. I have been motivated by this reason to take further studies like my masteral units so I get through the salary range I’ve been dreaming about and so for job security.
Lastly, I believe that bigger city is helpful in improving your interpersonal skills since it has more people from greatly diverse culture. It will widened your understanding and perspective on how different people from different background perceived things.
There were lot of things that city can offer that smaller town can’t at the same time vise versa. For me, as a young competitive, adventurous endeavor I prefer to live in the bigger city.

I noticed a lot of interesting essays here and decided to practice my writing skills in this warm surrounding. Below is the essay I’ve composed just now on the topic “Academic qualifications are of little practical benefit in the real world”
Thanks in advance for your attention and help!
Today the world is witnessing considerable changes in all spheres of our life including business. Recent economic downturn has shown how fragile the system may be even if it was built by professionals with great qualifications. This fact accompanied by other failures happened in education for example awoke discrepant debates over the increasing role of practice in addition to qualification itself. It’s reckless to say that persons equipped with practical experience only are more advantageous for the industries, but the fact that those specialists whose gap between academic and practical approaches isn’t so large brings more benefits to the industry becomes more and more evident. As there is a big variety of different qualifications it’s necessary to apply different methods of assessment both to academic and practical aspects.
Strong academic background has implied some positive and negative effects on people’s career as well as development of the appropriate industry as a whole. The most meaningful role of pursuing academic efforts is a chance to set up international standards for professions and to enable doctors with students to get better insight into latest theories and advances in the science. That fact results in the progress of academic research initiatives. For example, one of the academic achievements that society around the world may reap from today is invention of the internet by …. at Oxford university in 1990s. This person like many other his peers could move into practical computer job but calling and passion for science let him design one the most innovative products of XX century and give practical knowledge to thousands of people.
Of course examples of such bright achievements by means of academic support aren’t numerous. If turning again to computer area one can’t help avoiding the case with Bill Gates, a person who has made computer world go round for tens of years. Moreover, history counts many other successful people who didn’t have high qualifications but nevertheless managed to create their own place in the world of art or business. It’s sad to admit the fact that those people whose professional stuff may sometimes increase potential of many successful people in the industry remain unemployed and can’t realize their academic knowledge. My own country serves one of such illustrations. In addition, recent surveys of senior executive officers and employers showed that academic degrees like master or PhD become obstacle for many persons being given a job position. Employers explain this tendency by the lack of practical skills, I mean professional as well as personal. They claim that young people who chose to follow additional academic degrees are just confused about which way to take for their future career. And they postpone such important decisions by moving into next stage of academic development. Another feature of academically strong people that employers report as a weak one is lack of sociability and powerful communication skills.
Although academic qualifications gradually lose their value in the eyes of some industry participants I think people who want to trigger off progress must combine academic and practical skills in harmony. And biggest proportion should follow on academic side because it’s much more difficult and valuable for society. As to the career, only employer with lack of education may consider qualification of the specialist as a hurdle due to the fear in front of clever and smart employees.

Some people think that the family is the most important influence on young adults . Other people think that friends are the most important influence on young adults. What view do u agree with using examples.
Man is indeed a social animal who likes to interact with other human beings. These interactions produce an immense influence on us especially in the age where we transition from being children to growing up and being adults. We are mainly influenced by our family and friends in this tender age. I believe that the family has a greater impact on the minds of youth than their friends.
Young adults generally live with their families thereby spending more time with their family than their friends. Also members of a family have the same cultural background, same sets of values and often think on similarly which makes them identify with each other. Also the bonds between family members are based on love, care and concern for each other. It is also seen that since childhood most children idolize their parents as their role models for future. For example I have chosen to be a doctor since both my parents are doctors. Thus it is easier for young individuals to get influenced by a family member.
Friends are generally seen belong in the same age group thereby it can be seen that young adults have friends mainly from their own age group. These friends are the ones we spend time having fun and enjoying. Friends accept you irrespective of what you are whereas the family is ambitious for you and tries to push you harder to bring out the best in you. Since a family expects a lot from you, you try to do better in everything you do to meet their expectations. Friends are supportive of what you do but a family supports you without being too judgemental. Family provides us with a sense of security which no other friend could provide. Friends have almost the same amount of experience as you do whereas a family has more experience and maturity of thought which is very helpful in making important decisions for you.
Thus a family is seen to have a profound influence on the mind of a young adult than the friends would ever do.
Kindly correct my essay and rate it. Your opinions to improve my essays would be highly appreciated

Living in big cities would give you a good chance in getting what you need as fast as you can. It is very easy to get access to any facility in that city . what is nice about big cities is that you can go to any place you want and come back in the same day . In other words , if you happen to go to the main hospital , it won’t take you much time to reach your destination . On the other hand , main hospitals would be far for villages’ dwellers .
In the contrary there are some disadvantages of living in big cities , ranges from , air pollution to traffic. It has been known that getting stuck in traffic would affect the body . One of the problem which big cities residents face is : not having an open space for them to stay and breathe fresh air . It’s because of the number of new buildings which increases rapidly during the last ten years , which led families to look for places out side the city.

There is always distinction between rulal living and city living. Now a days, most people are shifting from rular areas to the urban area.Manyof them to earn money, spend a lucurious life. But i think that people can live more comfortablly in the rular areas.I personally prefer living in a small towns because of peace and quite,a better environment and family safty.
First of all, villages are usually quiet and relatively calm. The life in village is very peacefull and relaxed. There will be less vehicles and cars in the towns.People can be peaceful with out any noise.Of course, not all smale towns are idyllic in these fashion.Everybody dont like these slow and quite lifesyle. As the vehicle are low in the towns there will be no noise and pollution. On the other hand, in cities there will be more noise because of more vehicles and cars. Also more pollusion because of industries, vehicles and cars.howevere, i personally enjoy the village life.Through my childhood I have spent my life in small towns and big cites.I experenced peaceful and happy life in village.
Second of all, I think villages have better environment .There will be less traffic and pollution when compared to the cites.I fell it is easy to walk out to feilds, forests ,valleys and oceans and lake .I personally like to go out to see nature atlease once in a month to breath a fresh air,so it will be easy to go and spend grate natural scence.Of course, citiesalso have many things for entertenment, night lfe and broder scope of amenities. In small towns vegitable, friutes and also cereals are available in cheper rates and very fresh.in contrast,in cites those all are available but expensive and less quality. They use many medicines to grow them which are harmfull our life.so,I prefer these healthy and better environment in the village.
Third of all, village are also better for families.Towns have closer knit communites. They look out for each other and help each other .Safty factors are more reliable in the community based townships.where as in the cites nobody has time to talk to each other and they not even care when any boby is seriously ill.
In conclusion, there are many good reasons why villages are better than cities. To sum up the benifites in villages, people can live peacefull, calm and slow life.Villages have grate environment and healthy life. Also people can safely live in towns. So, I prefer living in villages. But at last, I suggest the people who are well educated and doctors should think about village and help them by working in schools, lunching industies, establishing hospatals and conducting awareness workshops in the villages.so that people in the village will not migrate to big cities and can have much better life.

Usually there are two choices for people to live: a country or a city. Some people may choose the life in a big cities, the others prefer natural and quiet surroundings in the
countryside.
The environment where a person grows up and lives, becomes a part of his/her life and I can surely say that both alternatives have their own advantages.
Some people love the life of the countryside, where is fresh air, beautiful nature, calm area. They enjoy the first cock crow in the morning, the twittering of birds in the trees, they are fond of farm working, growing flowers and having a rest sleeping in the tranquil. Consequently even more people, who live in the big cities gain houses in the countryside, in order to come and relax from noisy and polluted towns.
on other hand city is the symbol of human civilization and there are many facilities for living. Basically for growing teenagers, who have a chance to be well educated and erudite. These is a place where you can obtain your own experience and rich high level of your goals.
There are also people who like active lifestyle and can’t bear calm living in countryside, as they prefer spending their free time in disco clubs, casinos, cinemas and restaurants. These are the way they relax.
In sum, it is a choice of mentality where to live. However I think wherever you live, in big cities or in countryside, you must try to protect environment which surround you, as even living in the big cities may become boring and after a while you will prefer the calm and fresh area of countryside.
